How to Care for Your Lab Grown Diamond Engagement Ring

Learn how to care for your lab grown diamond engagement ring with expert tips on cleaning, storage, and maintenance from the jewelers at Ada Diamonds.

Your Ada Diamonds piece was made to last: made with care, and designed to be worn and loved for a lifetime.

With a little regular engagement ring maintenance and care, it will look as brilliant years from now as it does today.

Daily Care

The simplest engagement ring care tip is also the most effective: a quick clean with warm water and a soft toothbrush is all it takes to keep your ring sparkling through everyday wear. Gently scrub around the setting and under the stone where oils and product tend to collect, then rinse thoroughly and pat dry with a soft cloth.

When you're not wearing your ring, store it in its original ring box or a dedicated slot in a jewelry box; somewhere it won't come into contact with other pieces that could scratch the metal or loosen stones. If you're traveling, a small pouch or travel case will do the job.

Deep Cleaning

For a more thorough clean, use the jewelry cleaner included with your Ada Diamonds cleaning kit. Follow the included instructions, gently brush around the setting and under the stone, then rinse thoroughly and gently pat dry. Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home, as they can loosen stones over time, particularly in pavé or halo settings.

Regular cleaning of your ring at home is important, but we also recommend bringing your ring in for a professional clean and inspection once a year. Our team will check for worn prongs, loose stones, and any signs of wear, and give your piece a full polish so it looks exactly as it should. This is included as part of your Ada Diamonds warranty. Just reach out to your concierge to schedule. This annual check-in is one of the best things you can do to keep your ring in great shape for the long term.

When to Take it Off

Diamonds are the hardest natural substance on earth, but the precious metals in your setting are not. Gold and platinum can bend or scratch under pressure, and certain chemicals, such as chlorine, harsh cleaning products, lotions, and perfumes, can dull the metal's finish over time.

As a general rule, remove your ring before: swimming or using a hot tub, applying skincare or beauty products, cleaning with harsh chemicals, heavy exercise or manual work, and sleeping (especially if your setting has delicate pavé or fine prongs).

Protecting Your Ring From the Unexpected

We always recommend insuring your ring against loss, theft, and damage. While jewelry coverage can sometimes be added as a rider to a homeowner's or renter's policy, a dedicated jewelry insurance policy tends to offer more comprehensive protection for fine jewelry care. We recommend Jeweler's Mutual as a trusted option.

Your Ada Diamonds piece also comes with a two-year warranty covering repairs and resizing, along with our lifetime trade-in program. If you ever have questions about how to protect your engagement ring or anything else, your concierge is always here to help.
