All About Asscher Cuts
Asscher cut lab diamonds offer an elegant, vintage style to any engagement ring. This unique cut offers brilliant flashes of light and a sparkle that is unlike any other diamond shape.
This guide covers what to look for and how we approach selecting them.

What Makes Asscher Cuts Special
Asscher cut diamonds were originally introduced in 1902 by the Asscher Brothers of Holland’s Asscher Diamond Company (now the Royal Asscher Diamond Company).
Asscher cut diamonds are sometimes referred to as a “square emerald cut”, because they have similar faceting to emerald cuts with a shape that is more square than rectangular.
Asschers are a less common style, meaning choosing one for your center stone means your engagement ring will always look unique and distinctive.

Curating Asscher Cuts
Step cuts hide color relatively well but show inclusions more readily than brilliant cuts. For an Asscher, clarity matters. The large open facets make eye-visible inclusions hard to ignore, so we look for VS2 or better, and ideally VS1 or higher.
We also screen for empty, see-through facets in the pavilion. Some transparency is normal in step cuts, but you shouldn't be able to see straight through the stone. Every Asscher in our inventory is inspected in person before it's ever offered to a client.

Settings for Asscher Cuts
Like many of the other diamond shapes we offer, solitaire styles that showcase the diamond’s beauty are always our most popular setting choice for asschers.
Three stone options that highlight the unique geometry of the center stone also work well, and diamond band options can add sparkle without overpowering the center stone.
We offer a range of setting styles for asscher cuts. Shop online or work with a Diamond Concierge to design a custom style that’s all your own.
