All About Pear Cuts
Pear lab diamonds are a stunning way to show off your unique style. The pear brilliant cut is a combination of the round brilliant cut and a marquise cut, with all the sparkle of a round and the finger-flattering shape of a marquise.
This guide covers what to look for and how we approach selecting them.

What Makes Pear Cuts Special
The pear is considered to have the largest spread of all diamond shapes. Its elongated outline and wide base make it look visibly larger on the finger than other shapes of the same carat weight, and the pointed tip creates a natural lengthening effect.
Pears are cut in a range of proportions. Length-to-width ratios typically run from 1.40 to 1.65; a longer, narrower pear at the higher end, a shorter, wider one at the lower.
Neither is objectively better. It really comes down to what proportion you prefer and the setting style you have in mind. If you’re not sure, our Diamond Concierge are happy to show you pear diamonds in a range of ratios and help you choose the perfect setting style.

Curating Pear Cuts
Like oval diamonds, pears can have a visible bow-tie effect, essentially a shadow spanning the width of the diamond. Ada's concierge team carefully hand selects and visually inspects each diamond to ensure all of our lab grown diamonds are eye clean with no bow-tie effect or inclusions.
Because of their elongated cut, pears tend to show color more easily than other shapes, especially at the pointed tip. If you want a bright white diamond, staying in the higher color grades is worth prioritizing. We also screen for light leakage, which can make a stone appear darker or warmer than its color grade suggests.
All of the diamonds you’ll find our website have already been inspected by our lab diamond experts to ensure they meet our strict quality standards. If you’d like some help selecting the perfect diamond, book a virtual or in-person consultation, and our experts will help you find the perfect diamond!

Settings for Pear Cuts
The pointed tip of a pear cut needs protection in the setting. A v-prong or pointed prong at the tip is the standard choice, and it keeps the shape's silhouette clean.
Solitaires are our most popular choice for pears, they’re a timeless option to showcase the beauty of the diamond. Many clients opt for a diamond band for extra sparkle or a subtle hidden halo.
Halo options follow the teardrop outline naturally and are also a beautiful way to add some sparkle to your ring. Popular three-stone styles include smaller pear side stones, trillions, or tapered baguettes.
Whether the point faces toward or away from the hand is a personal choice. We offer a wide range of setting styles for pear cuts, or you can work with an Ada Concierge to design something entirely your own.
